Module 3 – Prevention and Early Intervention

This module explores strategies to prevent and intervene early in the abuse and mistreatment of older people. It focuses on addressing risks such as ageism, isolation, financial stress and carer strain through education, awareness, respectful relationships, and use of legal tools.

At the end of this module, learners will be able to:

• Recognise the various driving factors that contribute to abuse and mistreatment of older people
• Identify legal instruments used to safeguard the rights and preferences of older individuals including powers of attorney, guardianship, and advance care directives
• Identify basic strategies for prevention and early intervention of abuse and mistreatment
