This module explores what recovery looks like for older people after abuse, the strategies and supports that can assist their healing, and the importance of self-care and support pathways for workers involved in the recovery process.

At the end of this lesson, learners will be able to:

  • Explain the general principles of recovery, including holistic, culturally sensitive approaches and the importance of respecting autonomy, empowerment, and dignity of risk
  • Identify strategies for physical, psychological, social, and financial recovery from elder abuse, including empowerment, self-efficacy, and legal responses
  • Recognise the importance of self-care for recovery workers and available support pathways for individuals and support persons.
