Module 1 – Understanding abuse & mistreatment of older people

This module defines abuse and mistreatment of older people, discusses factors that contribute, and introduces principles for addressing abuse.

At the end of this module, learners will be able to:

• Define elder abuse and explain its prevalence, types, and impacts
• Identify who experiences elder abuse and the risk factors that contribute to it
• Describe the role of cultural, societal, and individual factors, including those influencing the person causing harm
